Bernice Rutledge

Bernice Rutledge, 86, of Spur died Thursday, February 26, 2009. Services will be 2PM, Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Hwy. 70 Church of Christ with Eric Swenson and Dennis Hofschild officiating. Interment will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Bernice was born May 1, 1922 in Roaring Springs to Frank and Mary Bradley Mayo. She married Thurmon "Sonny" Rutledge December 16, 1944 in Muskogee, OK. He preceded her in death in 2005. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and a lifelong member of the Spur Church of Christ.

She is survived by one daughter, Jackie Williams and husband Donald of San Angelo; four foster-children, Homer Ray Thomason of Lubbock, Wanda Hooker of Sachse, TX, and June Payne of Ft. Worth; one brother, Eldon Mayo and wife Nell of Rye, TX; four grandchildren, Alayna Hulme and husband Kyle, Wesley Thomason and Jenna, David Matthew Thomason and Amanda Faye Thomason all of San Angelo; two great-grandchildren, Jorydn Jae Thomason and Steven Hulme, Jr.; 26 nieces and fourteen nephews.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters and three brothers.

The family suggests memorials to the South Dickens County Senior Citizens Center, 210 Burlington, Spur, TX 79370.
