Pedro "Pete" Garcia Obituary

While surrounded by family, Pedro “Pete” Garcia was called home by the Lord on August 4, 2019 in his 91st year. His life was well lived and he was well loved.

He was born on November 4, 1927 to Luis and Loretta Garcia in Clairemont, Texas. His parents raised Pete and his siblings to be self-sufficient and hardworking from an early age. He worked the family ranch learning all the skills he would need to be a successful rancher himself.

As a young man, he wrote countless letters to a young beauty that caught his eye while he sang and played with his brothers band. He won the heart of Anita Robles and she became his wife and his forever on March 6, 1948 when he was 20 years old.

Pete and Anita worked tirelessly to build a life and home, dreaming of a farm to work and raise a family on. They eventually settled in Ralls, Texas and raised their five children.

Pete had a long-standing relationship with God.  Serving as Deacon for 27 years in the parish of Ralls and Crosbyton and an additional 7 years in Spur, only stopping because he could no longer climb the steps to the altar. Pete was also a Cursillista of the Cursillo Movement, and served as Parish Council President for many years at all his Parishes. He was blessed with his unwavering faith until his last dying breath.

Pete was also an artist in the form of storytelling. He had an ability to take you on magical journeys through his gift of words. He would take his memories and spin them into beautiful tales of suspense and mystery, heartache and joy. Friends and family could sit for hours listening to him share his adventures and not be aware of the time that had passed.

Family was the pivotal essence of Pete’s life. He was proud and honored to be the patriarch, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather to our large family.

Pete is proceeded in death by his parents Luis and and Loretta Garcia, his wife Anita Garcia, two sons Tom Garcia and Pete Jr. (Bobby) Garcia, two granddaughters Marci and Elizabeth Garcia, and a grandson.

He is survived by two daughters Frances Perez of Dallas, Beatrice Morales of Spur, and one son Adam of Lubbock.  13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters Francis Navarro of Woodrow, Julia Puente of Lorenzo, and two brothers Joe John Garcia of Spur and Willie Garcia of Ralls.

Rosary will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spur, Texas at 7pm on August 6th and services will be held on Wednesday August 7th at 2pm. A celebration of life will be held immediately following burial at the Spur Community Center.

Pallbearers include: George Garcia, Robert Garcia, Pat Garcia, James Puente, Roy Garcia, John Albert Navarro, and Joe Olivarez. Honorary Pallbearers include: Michael Garcia, Mark Salazar, Eddie Garcia, Christopher Zuniga, and Javen (JT) Montoya.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a moment to hug your child, grandchild, friend, or to bless the soul of another in need. Take a walk in a moment of reflection. Time waits for no one.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
