Richard Delvin Simpson “Buddy”
March 4, 1935 – August 20, 2019
After 84 beautiful years of life Richard Simpson, known to friends as "Buddy," went to be with our Father God on August 20, 2019.
A native of Oklahoma, Buddy spent his youth playing football and running track and would later play football at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. These experiences ignited a love of sports that he would carry with him his entire life. He was an exceptional multi-sport coach including high school football, collegiate track and field, and college football at West Texas State University. In 1984, he was selected to serve as a track official for the Olympic Trials held at West Texas State. He was an avid Texas Tech fan and loved nothing more than cheering on the Red Raiders to victory.
Always a hard worker, Buddy enjoyed a long career as a salesman. After his retirement he worked alongside his wife Sandra in their thriving antique business “Grannymammy’s.” After their next retirement, Buddy made himself useful maintaining the grounds at White River Lake and bagging groceries at Lawrence Brothers in Spur, Texas.
Friends and family remember most fondly their time spent together fishing, boating, and playing in their “babin’ suits” at White River Lake where Buddy and Sandra lived for more than 20 years. Buddy was a cornerstone of their church community where he found fellowship in the Lord with friends.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra, daughter Carla and her husband Tom, and grandchildren Phillip, Nikki, and Jessica. Last, but not least, his beloved dog Sugar misses him every day. He is proceeded in death by sons Steven and Monty.
A Celebration of Buddy’s life will be held at 2 pm, on Sunday, August 25th, at the Highway 70 Church of Christ in Spur, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Buddy can be made to the Highway 70 Church of Christ by mail at Star Feed and Seed, 211 West Harris, Spur, Texas 79370 c/o Zoe.
