Wanda Faye (Rogers) Stockton

Wanda Faye Rogers Stockton was born February 4th, 1933 to Alvin and Gladys Rogers in Portales, New Mexico and passed on May 22nd, 2019. Wanda attended school in Portales, New Mexico. On April 29th, 1950, she married Jim Stockton. Wanda and Jim moved to Matador, Texas in the early 1960’s and raised their family on the Matador Ranch. Wanda worked at Hale Laundry and later for Davis Fuel in Matador. She lived at Larque Camp on the ranch for many years and raised her family without running hot water and electricity. She chopped wood for their wood stove and ironed their clothes with flat irons. She also became amazingly good at shooting rattlesnakes. Jim and Wanda moved to the Matador Ranch Headquarters until Jim left the ranch. After several moves, they ended up inside the city limits of Matador which was quite a transition for both of them. Wanda was a member of the First Baptist Church in Matador and cherished her Winsome Sunday School class.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Jim Stockton; daughters; Deb Spray (Joel), Glenda Williams (Rodney), sisters; Christine Merrick of Portales, New Mexico and Velma Rowlett of Carlsbad, New Mexico. She is survived by grandchildren; Brandee Smith (Tyler), Lyndee Ward (Tim), Lindsey Westbrook, Kristi Salinas and Angelo. Great grandchildren are Leanne Jameson, Jamie Jameson, Jade Bennett, Bryce Bennett, Andrew Westbrook, Randa Westbrook, Timothy Ward, Catherine Ward, Christopher Ward, Trinity Ward, Jordan Ward, Kingston Salinas and Austin Salinas. She has one great, great grandson, Gus Fox. She has many very special nieces and nephews.

Wanda was precede in death by her parents, Alvin and Gladys Rogers; daughter; Billie Stockton Smith, siblings; Levi Alvin rogers Jr., Ruby Lee Wilson, Jewel Kathleen Rogers, Ida Mae Rogers, Willie Otis Rogers, Mattie Marie Agee, Lyndia Kay Hill and Dorothy Gene Rogers.

Graveside services will be  held 2:00 PM Saturday May 25th at the East Mound Cemetery, Matador, TX with James Palmer officiating under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home
