Betty Cathryn (Barnes) Canon

Church services for Betty Cathryn Barnes Canon, 87, of Paducah, will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church of Paducah, with Pastor Matt Brown officiating.  Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home of Paducah.  Visitation will be held 6-8PM, Friday at the funeral home.  Betty passed from this life on Wednesday, March 10 2021 in Matador.

Betty was born on August 20, 1933 to G.S. and Mattie Barnes in Delwin, Tx.  She married the love of her life, Presley B Canon, on November 11, 1951 in Paducah, where they raised two daughters, Connie and Susie.

Betty was a homemaker and attended nursing school around 1967 or 68.  She worked as a nurse for over 40 years.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Paducah, and was a member of the Methodist Women.  She was a devout Methodist, and loved the church and people in it.  Betty raised four grandchildren from the pew, while their parents sang in the choir, only having to pinch them occasionally during any given service.  She could always be counted on to help when the need arose, and she will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Connie Beck and Steve of Paducah, and Susie Hurt of Paducah, her sisters Windol Burks of Paducah, and sister Peggy Cowart of Shallowater, four grandchildren; Steven Beck & wife Dana, Lacey Brewer & husband Chris, Jeremy Beck & wife Traci, and Bri Wiley & husband Chris, all of Paducah, and twelve great grandchildren, Austin Mackey and wife Dakota, Madison Beck, Jordan Mackey, Marley Beck, Kadyn Mackey, Jodi Beck, Bryson Davis, Kadee Beck, Brody Beck, Payton Wiley, Pyper Wiley and Makenna Casey, and one great-great granddaughter Presley Mackey.

She was preceded in death by her parents G. S. & Mattie Barnes, husband Press Canon, son-in-law Micky Hurt, and siblings; Silbert, Keith, Kenny, Neulyn, Shirley, Tommy, Charlie, Marjean Lindsey and Sister Woodward.

Pallbearers: Luis Pina, Creg Mayberry, Gary Dunlap, Dale Whitaker, Cary Mayo, and Todd Smith.

Memorial donations in honor of Betty Canon can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Paducah.
