Brenda Brewer Obituary

Brenda Jean Sossaman Brewer On Monday ,January 11, 2021, Brenda Jean passed away in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 79 from a battle with cancer. She was born on January 19, 1941 in Cottle County, Texas.  She married Jimmie Brewer on April 8, 1961.  They were married for 39 years; he was the love of her life. Brenda was a member of First Baptist Church, Paducah, Texas.

Brenda was a week from her 80th birthday, but thankfully was able to celebrate early with family and even blew out some candles.

Brenda will be remembered for her generous heart, work ethic, and honesty. When the Lord told her to give, she gave; she blessed many with her quick obedience and generosity. Her gift was often accompanied with the gospel and desire to see people live for the Lord. She cared so much about everyone that she always told people what they needed to hear, even if they didn’t want to hear it. Brenda’s lived a full life. She started working when she was 16 and her jobs were a big part of her life.  She loved her work as a dental assistant for Dr. Jim Bratton and recently Dr. Eric Green. She loved serving people.  Her work as a prison guard was a calling, not a job to her.  She was grateful for the opportunity to pray for and pour into the lives of the young men in prison.  God protected her and blessed her there. Those were wonderful days for Brenda.  Her family heard stories of how the prisoners wouldn’t let anything happen to Brenda. She was loved by them and so loved by her family. Brenda was a prayer warrior and she poured into the lives of her daughter, grandson, nieces and nephews.  All of them can tell stories of games, laughter, joking and fun.  She took many of them to Six Flags, fishing with her and Jimmie and family reunions.  But you rarely spent time around Brenda that she didn’t ask you about the Bible or how your were with the Lord.  Her influence was meaningful and will not be forgotten.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzette Conyer and grandson, Xavier Conyer, both of Dallas, Texas;, her sisters: Johnnie Crocker of Howe, Texas; Susie and husband, Jerry Pate Long of Paducah, Texas; and Debbie and husband Fro Walden of Paducah, Texas.  She has 7 nieces and 3 nephews as well as 26great-nieces and nephews, and even 5 great-great-nieces and nephews, who mall love her so much and will miss her greatly.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Brewer; her brother, Jerry Sossaman; her sister, Gayla Buckner; and parents, John L and Hattie Bell Sossaman.

A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held at Paducah Cemetery on Friday, January 15 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Dillon Fox officiating. Under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Brenda can be made to Paducah Cemetery Fund or First Baptist Church of Paducah.
