Charlotte Boothe Obituary

Charlotte Clare McVicker Boothe died peacefully in hospice care in Madison, Wisconsin on Tuesday May 23, 2023, at the age of 100.

Charlotte was born on November 24, 1922, in Chanute, Kansas to Chester William McVicker and Ina Jacquith (Cass) McVicker.  Charlotte graduated high school in Colton, California and attended some college at UC Davis prior to World War II when the school was taken over for use by the military.  Working on base for the war effort, Charlotte met and married Larry Odeneal Boothe and later relocated to live with him on the family farm in Dickens County, Texas.   After their first child was born, the couple later moved to Lubbock, Texas and welcomed two more children over the years.  As an active member of the Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock, Charlotte taught Bible class and worked in the nursery.  The family moved from Sunset to help establish the Greenlawn congregation in 1960.   Her husband, Larry passed away in 1985.  Charlotte moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico to live with her son in 2004.  In 2021, Charlotte came back to Lubbock to stay with her oldest daughter.  In June of 2022, Charlotte went to visit her second daughter in Madison, Wisconsin.   Charlotte passed away in Madison, only days before planning to return to Texas.

Charlotte was employed in various jobs in her lifetime and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, but her greatest accomplishment was raising her three children and being involved in their activities in school, church, and scouts.

Prior to her 100th birthday, Charlotte completed her ‘bucket’ list of having a big family party, taking a train trip, visiting Wisconsin, and attending her first NFL game of her favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Charlotte is survived by her children, Julia Ann Dixon, Dora Boothe Rodgers (Tim), and Larry William Boothe; her six grandchildren, Lynn Dixon (Heather Stafford), Joe Dixon, Charlotte Rodgers, Stephanie Pitts (Carl), Marisa Rodgers, and Courtney Brumfield (Jesse); and her four great grandchildren, Brea Stafford, Elijah McGee, Lillian Pitts, and Cecelia Brumfield.

Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents Chester and Ina McVicker, her sister Carolyn Scaila, husband Larry Boothe, and son-in-law Garry Dixon.

A graveside service will be held in the Spur cemetery in Spur, Texas at 1:00 PM on June 2, 2023.  Eulogy will be given by Annette Evers and Cyndi Taylor.  Private family viewing will take place at the Zapata Funeral Home in Spur, Texas just prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a Hospice care of your choice.  Condolences can be sent to the Zapata funeral home.  The family would like to thank the staff of Agrace Hospice in Madison, Wisconsin for their loving care of Charlotte towards the end of her life and the Zapata funeral home for making all the arrangements for bringing Charlotte home to rest.
