Christopher Wayne Murphy, 49, passed peacefully on January 2, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer. Chris loved the outdoors and worked in the lumber industry beginning with green chain and working his way up to operating equipment and driving log trucks, working in Oregon, Washington and Alaska. Chris also drove long-haul for years and he and his wife Monica drove as a team for the last five years, delivering products to 48 states, including during the pandemic.
Chris also loved fishing, and retiring to Alaska, was one of his dreams. Music was a big part of Chris’ life. He took eight years of piano, was self taught on the guitar and he loved all types of music.
Chris was predeceased by his father, Larry Murphy of Portland, Oregon, and is survived by his wife, Monica Murphy; his mother, Mary Murphy of Washington; his brother Joe Murphy (Rachael) of Utah; sister Susan Murphy, of Oregon; daughters Destiny Murphy Marsh (Iann) of Texas; Emily Murphy of Washington; and Faith Murphy of Washington; sons, Ryan McFarland of Washington, and Caden McCray of Texas. Chris was “Dad” to Monica’s children: Murphy Buckley (Christian) of Louisiana; Alric Keller of Texas; and Riley Fairwell of Washington. Chris was also a grandfather with two grandsons: Jude of Washington, and Maverick of Texas; and two granddaughters: Gracie and Serenity both of Texas.
Chris loved the Lord and strived to live the Golden Rule. He was generous and loving, quick to forgive, slow to judge, and was all about giving second and even third chances. With an open and welcoming manner, Chris made friends easily and his family came first. We were privileged to know and love him.
On February 16th - their wedding anniversary- Monica would like everyone who knew Chris to take a moment and remember him. Play music, toast him, light a candle, tell a story, whatever you’d like. Chris wanted to organize a concert where bands could play and people could pay whatever they could afford to attend. He actively researched it for a couple of years. This is one of his last requests so this will be his concert (and Chris said he’ll be watching). What will be special is that the entire audience will be made up of people who knew and loved Chris.
A memorial service will be held Saturday January 27, 2024 at 10am at Antioch Baptist Church, 203 North 6th Street, Paducah TX 79248. Condolences may be sent in care of the Church.
