Doc Edwards Obituary

Doc Dwayne Edwards passed away in his home surrounded by his family, August 31, 2019.  Doc was born April 5, 1936 in Dickens County to Clay Edwards and Robbie Wyatt Edwards.

He was a graduate of Patton Springs Schools in Afton, TX, where he excelled in FFA activities and sports.  He attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine.

He married Bonnie Smith of Kalgary, TX, November 2, 1955 on the Swenson Ranch. 

Doc always enjoyed civic duties to help communities and people.  He served on the school board at Girard. He was a member of the Spur Cowboy Polo team that won world championships many times in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.  He was awarded MVP in his position many years.

He also produced Little Britches Rodeos in the 70’s where he mentored and touched the lives of many young cowboys and cowgirls.  He had friends of all ages all across the area as a result of these activities.

He served many years on the board of the Motley-Dickens County Old Settlers Reunion and served as Dickens County Commissioner for twenty years.

He raised cattle, ranched and supported his kids and grandchildren through stock shows, rodeos and sports activities.  He loved the Spur High School athletic programs.

Doc was preceded in death by his parents, brother Max Edwards, granddaughter Jaime Martin, son-in-law Hoss Martin and grandson-in-law Doug Harney.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bonnie of Spur; two daughters Sharon Martin of Spur and Patricia Heinrich of Slaton and one son Mark Edwards of Dallas; four granddaughters Misty Martin, Big Spring, Jennifer Evans, Floydada, Charlsi Allen, Friona, Collyn Thompson, Munday; two great grandsons, Jeremy Ybarra, Big Spring and Stetson Clay Allen, Friona.

Services are scheduled at 2:00PM Monday September 2nd, at the First Baptist Church, 120 W. 2nd Street, Spur, TX  79370. Burial will be at the Spur Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church in Spur or Dickens County EMS.
