Donald was born on Dec. 4, 1935. Donald graduated Paducah High School in 1954, and his class went to the 1954 state football championship game. Donald went on to attend and play football at Sul Ross College in Alpine, TX for two years, before joining the US Army. He continued playing football in the Army, among his other duties, and after four years he returned to Paducah and married Patsy Anderson. They were married on June 8, 1961 and Donald started farming cotton and wheat. Donald also had cattle and he continued farming and ranching until he started working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Donald worked for TDCJ for ten years and also worked for Cottle County, while continuing to farm and ranch for sixty years! Donald also worked for Dennis Cross. Donald was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Midway Church and the Missionary Baptist Church of Paducah. He was also a 32nd Mason of the Masonic Lodge of Paducah.
