Evelyn Marie (Mathewson) Dement

Evelyn Marie Dement, 73, of Lubbock, TX passed away May 27th, 2023. A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church of Spur followed by a burial at Spur Memorial Cemetery, 1:00pm Saturday, June 3rd, 2023.

Evelyn was born December 5th, 1949, in Spur, Texas to George and Minnie Mathewson. She married William Lloyd Dement “Rowdy” on July 16th, 1972, in Reno, NV where they later relocated to Lubbock. Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. Evelyn enjoyed traveling to a variety of destinations with her family, mostly she loved the beach. She loved attending any event for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whether it was pageants, cheer programs, football, basketball, baseball, or soccer games. She worked as an insurance agent until 2018, through her career of 50 years she received an abundance of awards and touched the lives of many. Evelyn lived for her family and her dogs, Cassie, Duke, and Megan. Evelyn was a beautiful soul: kind, loving, generous, intelligent, and determined. She enjoyed helping those around her, and she was never the one to tell you no. Evelyn will continue to be a bright light to everyone with whom she met and be well-loved by all.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Minnie Mathewson, older brother George Long and beloved fur-baby Cassie.

Evelyn is survived by her Husband Rowdy, her daughters: Renee D’Ann and Robbie Wallace (son-in-law), Christy Marie Dement; grandchildren: Kirsten Lee and Matt Walker (grandson-in-law), Haylee Renee Luce, Tanner Wallace, and Logan Luce; great-grandchildren: Brayden Walker, Braelynn Rae Kiser and soon to be John-Rayson Teague; siblings: Roy Long, Clara Ann Webb, Barbara Jean Brown, and George Mathewson Jr.
