Howard James Jr. Obituary

Howard “Bubba” James started his final adventure on the morning of January 24, 2024 with the love of his life, Jeni at his side. Howard was born on April 10, 1964 at Shepherd Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. He grew up in Granbury, Texas and was mischievous from a very young age many times getting his younger sister Cyndi & younger brother, William in trouble for his antics. He loved spending summers in Seminole, Texas with Granny and PaPaw Chatman playing in the peach orchard. He grew up with a love for sports, as well as the lifelong friends he made in the process. After attending Granbury high school, he joined the Marine Corps. He was proud to serve his country while again, he made lifelong friends. Ooo-Rah.

The Lord gifted Howard with his first daughter Kristin in 1984. He moved to Childress, Texas where he met his Jeni who blessed him with Jesse in 1989 and Maci in 1990. He was an extremely proud girl dad. He was even more proud that all three girls blessed him with all grandsons. After Maci was born, they moved to Battle Mountain, Nevada. There he and Jeni served the community as volunteer paramedics. He worked mining gold for Santa Fe Pacific Gold Company… And again in case you weren’t seeing the theme, he made numerous lifelong friends. After a decade in the frigid mountains, Howard moved the family to Phoenix, Arizona. For the next ten years, He made even more friends, who he enjoyed even more adventures with. This is also where he refined the art of master craftsman and Jack of all trades. When he decided it was time to head home he and Jeni returned to Texas to settle in Paducah. He worked as a carpenter, showing off his artistic side through his work. Until the end Howard enjoyed fishing, making memories, jeeping over the Colorado mountains, watching his grandsons play sports and getting to spend time with his wife, girls, grandchildren, family, and friends. He loved life. He was larger than life. He never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh. He never met a stranger. He was a good man. He loved God, his family and the Great State of Texas.

Howard is preceded in death by his father George Lynn Barton Jr, mother Helen McBee Barton, sister Jacquie Lynn Holder, and nephew Tyler Aaron Barton and father in law James A Long.
