Howard Arthur Smith

Howard Arthur Smith, lifetime resident of Paducah, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022. He was 90 years old.

Howard was born at home on March 23,1932 in King County to Arthur and Lynnie (Sweeney} Smith. He was their only child. They soon moved to Paducah, and this is where Howard grew up and attended school. Howard graduated Paducah High School in 1950. He farmed and raised cattle his entire adult life, right up to his passing.   Besides farming and cattle, he did many things to make a living. He built fence, did custom hay baling, and repaired windmills. He was a partner in the Tongue River Grazing Association. He owned and operated Smith Tire Center in Paducah from 1974 until the shop closed in 1995. He was active in the community having served as Paducah's Mayor, President of the Paducah Rod & Gun Club, President of the Cottle-King Rodeo Association.

He helped cook the rodeo associations barbeque meal for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He traveled to Colorado for many years to elk hunt. He loved to tell the stories of hunting with his friends.

Howard married Anne Smith of Guthrie, Texas in September 1957. Together they raised three sons. They were divorced in 1977. Howard married Alta Ward in 1998. They were very happy and enjoyed travel. Alta passed in 2008.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Smith and Lynnie Smith Hobbs, and his wife Alta. He is survived by his three sons and their families: Joe Bruce Smith & Sandy Holland, Barry & Trisha Smith, Bucky & Rebeca Smith. All of Paducah. Four grandchildren; Matthew Garrett and wife Janice of Lawton (Ft. Sill) OK, Jacob, Caleb, and Shelby Smith of Paducah. And two great grandchildren; Katie and Kayden of Lawton, OK.

Howard is dearly loved by his family and will be missed by them, and his many friends,
