Steve Paschall, 71, of Paducah, TX departed for his Heavenly tee time on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 11:05am. He was preceded in death by his parents Coleman Paschall and Rogene Farmer Paschall, Brother Patrick Lee, daughter Cacey Anne, and Father-in-Law Delwin C. Brooks. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Suzanne Brooks Paschall, their children, Cole (wife Cristi), Daughter Lindsey, grandchildren Camden Paschall and Jace Albus and a host of other family and friends.
Steve graduated from Paducah High School in 1969 and joined the U.S. Army serving from 1971 until 1974 where he was a proud “Tanker” attached to the 2nd Armored Division out of Ft. Hood, Texas, spending most of his enlistment stationed in Germany guarding the Fulda Gap. After returning stateside, Steve served in the U.S. Army Reserves until his Honorable Discharge in 1976, attaining the rank of Sergeant. During his stint in the Reserves Steve was employed by Gerald “Bear” Piper performing many farming duties not the least of which was annoying Bear.
Steve married the love of his life, Suzanne, on January 10, 1976, and immediately began attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. Steve graduated a proud Red Raider in 1977 with a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture. Fresh out of college, Steve and his Father-in–Law, Delwin Brooks, formed B&P (later D Bar Custom Farms) where he farmed for 17 years in and around Paducah. It was then Steve went to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) at the newly opened T.L. Roach unit in Childress, TX teaching Horticulture and Small Gas Engines. While teaching at the Roach unit, Steve began to pursue a post graduate degree from Sul Ross University in Alpine, TX, and received a Master's Degree in Counseling with a certification in Mid-Management. At that point he was able to move into a Counselor’s role at the James Allred unit in Wichita Falls, TX, where he stayed until he moved into the Principal’s Office at Paducah ISD first as a Junior High Principal then as Principal of K-12. Steve then moved back to the T.L. Roach Unit to serve as Principal until his retirement. In retirement, Steve was an avid golfer and worked seasonally for the Paducah Gin, substituted for Paducah ISD, and performed many farming duties for friends and family in the area.
Steve’s antics were legendary and those who knew him have their own stories to tell. He never met a stranger and was never afraid to talk someone’s ear off. He loved people and this was nevermore perfectly illustrated by his many years of service to his Lord, Jesus Christ, through his being a member, teacher, Deacon, and serving on multiple committees at First Baptist Church in Paducah. He also dearly loved his community of Paducah. He would proudly tell you he was born on the top floor of Richards Memorial Hospital and over his life served in many service and social organizations in the community, some of which were Paducah Jaycees, Veterans Assocation, Volunteer Fire Department, Country Club, Rodeo Association, Stock Show Assocation, Old Settlers, and Little League. You would also hear Steve’s voice on fall evenings as he was the proud voice of Dragon Nation calling both the Jr. High and High School Paducah Dragon football games.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the family and friends for their support and prayers during this difficult time. Your kindness and gratitude cannot be overstated and will not be soon forgotten. The family would also like to thank the ER and Nephrology Teams at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, TX for their compassionate care during Steve’s short stay.
Steve will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Paducah and The Cottle County Cemetary Assocation.
