It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Joan Alzada Havins Porter, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who peacefully passed away on October 25, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 81. Joan was born on August 9, 1942, in Paducah, Texas, to Tommy and Myrtle (Gentry) Havins.
Joan is survived by her loving sons: Vance (Shanna) Porter, Mitch (Marsha) Porter, Kent Porter, and Jason (Donna) Porter, as well as her devoted daughter, Jennifer Hoffman. She will be lovingly remembered by her 12 grandchildren: NaKesha, Christa, Will, Sam, Claire, Amber, Tyson, Michael, Drew, Aubree, Sarah, and Isaiah, and 11 great-grandchildren: Austin, Abby, David, Walter, Bonnie, Jayden, Callahan, Tennison, Lukas, Cheyenne, and Levi. She will also be dearly missed by her sisters Pat, Margie, and Marybeth, who will always cherish her memory.
Joan found her greatest joy in caring for her loved ones. She dutifully spent her days as a homemaker, caregiver, seamstress, business owner, jewelry designer, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Joan’s presence brightened the lives of all who knew her. With a heart filled with compassion and a spirit that radiated warmth, Joan touched the lives of countless people, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Her legacy of selfless sacrifice, generosity, and kindness will forever be cherished, reminding us to live each day with unconditional love, grace, and gratitude. Joan’s determination to overcome adversity will forever be an inspiration to us all, reminding us to chase our dreams fearlessly. Joan was a constant source of strength for those fortunate enough to have known her. Though she may be gone, her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
