Joe was born on September 21, 1944 in Spur, Texas. He was the youngest child of Luis and Loretta Garcia.
Joe graduated from Spur High School in 1964 and spent his entire life in Spur, Texas and worked his family farm until he decided to go to Western Texas College in Snyder, TX in 1990, earning a degree in nursing and worked in a local nursing home followed by home health care that he loved.
Joe married Mina Garcia on April 24, 1965 in Spur, Texas. Together they shared 2 daughters, Christina Ramirez (Virgil Valdez) of Colorado Springs, CO, Lisa (Jim) Garza of Lubbock, TX and a son Freddie (Traci) Garcia of Austin, TX. Joe also had 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Joe loved to go fishing, driving a tractor and sharing so many stories to anyone who would listen about growing up at the rancho. He also loved raising his chickens, goats and dogs.
Joe was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church that his parents help build.
Joe is survived by his wife and children along with numerous nieces and nephews that he cherished. Joe was the last living child of Luis and Loretta.
Preceding Joe in death are his parents, Luis and Loretta, brothers Jack, Willie, Lawrence, Pete, Andrew, and Margarito, his sisters, Francis Navarro, Julia Puentes and Anita Gurrero and 3 great grandchildren, Lela, Lillianna, and D.J.
Visitation will be held on January 30, 2026 at 3 pm followed by a rosary at 5 pm at Zapata Funeral Home. Funeral/Memorial services will be held January 31, 2026 at St Mary’s Church at 10 am. Interment will be at The Garcia Ranch immediately following the service under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
