Joe Meredith Obituary

Joe Glenn Meredith, 84, of Roaring Springs, moved to a new home December 14, 2020, when he entered the gates of Heaven. He was lovingly known as Daddy, Papa, Joe Glenn, Uncle Joe, and friend by many. He died in Lubbock Covenant hospital from complications of pneumonia, a result of the Covid-19 virus. Joe Glenn fought hard to defeat this illness. He was a strong man and even at 84, worked most every day.

Joe Glenn Meredith was born November 19, 1936, in Quitman, Texas, to Luster C. and Agnes (Abercrombie) Meredith. He worked from the time he was old enough to pick cotton and help his father in farming operations. He loved his family and helped anyone in need.

He married Joyce (Ashley) August 17, 1957, in Matador, Texas. The couple made their home in Roaring Springs and was blessed with five children. Mr. Meredith was a carpenter/contractor and built, remodeled or repaired many homes in Motley and Dickens County. After retiring from the carpentry business he and his sons purchased the Roaring Springs propane company and established Meredith Gas & Supply. He was creative and could design and build just about anything anyone could imagine.

Joe enjoyed picking up his long time work partner and friend, Kenneth, on his golf cart to drive around town, look at all the homes they had worked in or built and reminisce.

Joe Glenn played the Harmonica and could play most any tune requested. He learned to play at a very young age using the "Sliding Note Finder," that he purchased from a comic book.

He raised his children with a loving firm hand and taught them to be humble, kind, and helpful to those in need. But the most important lesson he taught his children and grandchildren was to love and trust in God. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Roaring Springs where he was saved and baptized.

Joe loved family get-togethers and especially at Christmas. When his kids were growing up he enjoyed taking them out and finding the most perfect Cedar tree to cut, bring home, and decorate. This year he will spend his first Christmas in Heaven.

Joe Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Doris Thames, Yvonne Wilson, ElWanda Carson as well as two brothers, Johnny and Jackie Meredith. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joyce Meredith; two daughters, Carla (Jim) Meador and Sherry (Tony) Rose of Matador; three sons, Randy (Holly) Meredith of Roaring Springs, Cody (Leah) Meredith of San Angelo, and Yancy (Daphne) Meredith of Roaring Springs; eight grandchildren, Jeremy (Whitney) Jones of Lubbock, Sean (Heidi) Rose of Matador, Shea Rose of Matador, Wylie Hodges of Kansas, John (Jessica) Hodges of Amarillo, Angelica Meredith of San Angelo, Jonah Meredith and Parker Meredith both of Roaring Springs; four great-grandchildren, Morgan and Judson Jones both of Lubbock, Harper and Kellen Rose of Matador; and two step-great-grandchildren, Dominick and Madison Maldonado of Matador; one brother, Bennie Meredith of Roaring Springs; three sisters, Verlon Lindsey of Clute, Texas, Marilyn Weis of Temple, Texas, and Dian Estes of Matador as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeremy Jones, Sean Rose, Wylie Hodges, John Hodges, Jonah Meredith, Parker Meredith, and great-grandsons Judson Jones and 5-year-old Kellen Rose will be an honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Roaring Springs Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 83, Roaring Springs, TX 79256 or the local charity or organization of your choice.
