Joyce Matney Obituary

Alma Joyce McDonald Matney went to be with her Lord November 27, 2020.  Joyce was born July 3, 1926 to Alan and Tomie (Sturdivant) McDonald at their home in Paducah, Texas.  She Graduated from Paducah High School with the class of 1943.  She attended Draughons Business School in Lubbock.  Afterwards, she moved back to Paducah and was the bookkeeper for Jackson Tire Company.  Joyce married Clinton Matney on March 23, 1946 in Big Spring, Texas.  Together they bought Quality Cleaners in Paducah which they ran for 25 years.  Joyce then began working for the State of Texas Health Department until the office closed in 1983.  Joyce and Clinton bought the Old Defore place east of town where she lived until January 2019.  For a 'town' girl, she fell in love with living in the country.  She enjoyed gardening, flowers, watching the cows, horses, cats and birds.  Joyce and Clinton joined the First Baptist Church in 1949 where she has been a member ever since.  She loved volunteering in the nursery for 25 years.  She was on the funeral dinner committee for many years and was responsible for the deviled eggs.  She was a member of WMU, loved the church and her Lord.  Joyce worked full time but was room mother at school for her girls, attended 4-H activities, and many basketball games. She stayed up late at night to finish sewing something so her girls could wear them to school the next day.  Recently she had taken up making aprons.  Joyce was a member of the Delwin Study Club enjoying fellowship, lunch, and Rummicube.  She loved to play games.  She loved to bake cookies and delivered them to whoever needed visiting.  Joyce had a big, kind and compassionate heart.  Her family was her greatest joy. She was the best Mom, mother-in-law, and grandma.  She was always ready to go wherever they went and said she was going until she couldn't.  Joyce is preceded in death by her husband Clinton of 48 years, her parents and her siblings:  Floye McDonald, Fern Hart, Lloyd McDonald, Annette Campbell, and Charlotte Whitley.  Survivors left to cherish her memory are her daughters Ronda Havins and husband Danny of Canyon and Renae Smith and husband Chuck of Amarillo.  Grandchildren Lindsay Chandler and husband Cody of Hereford, Wade and wife Amy of Dallas and Austin Smith and his wife Ashley of Amarillo.  Two great-grand children Ralph and Vivienne Havins.  The family would like to thank all the friends in Paducah that looked after Mom and the wonderful Staff and nurses at Five Points Nursing in Amarillo.  It would be Joyce's wish that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Paducah or the Paducah Cemetery Association.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
