Keith Green Obituary

Keith Royce Green was born February 18, 1939 in Turkey, Texas to R.C. and Kathleen Green. He graduated from Turkey High School in 1957 and went on to earn his Business degree from West Texas State University in 1962.

He married his college sweetheart, Bettie Jean Chambliss, on June 24, 1960 at the Wesley Chapel at West Texas State University.

In 1962, they moved back to Turkey to make it their home. Keith joined his father’s business, Turkey Automotive Supply, the same year. He owned and ran the business for over 40 years.

There is a long list of men Keith mentored and helped as they worked with him at the store. Keith was an incredibly generous man, and he used his time in the store to bless and minister to his community. He was an excellent teacher of life lessons and always quoted the Golden Rule.

Keith and Bettie were fixtures of the community, participating in all the school activities and supporting the youth of the community. He was a bedrock of the Turkey First United Methodist Church. His passion was supporting the church and leading others to Christ through his example.

Keith was a Free Mason supporting the local lodge and was an active member and leader in the Lions Club. He was always there to lend a hand and support his community.

His children and grandchildren all have fond memories of “putting out the flags” for all the holidays. They learned to serve their communities through Keith’s godly example.

Keith was an active leader in Kairos Ministries at the prison in Childress, along with Bettie and many of his friends from Turkey. They worked to minister to the prisoners for over 20 years. He was always patient, caring, and non-judgmental of his fellow man who had made a mistake along the way.  He would always tell us: “But for the grace of God there go I.”

Keith was known to his family and friends as Poppa. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. His favorite times were when the grandchildren would come and spend summertime with him and Bettie in Turkey. He taught all his grandchildren to drive on the dirt roads coming and going from taking care of the horses. He loved to play games with his family, go bird hunting with his dogs, and read the grandchildren bedtime stories every night.

Keith was a beloved, kind, and giving Christian man. He was devoted to his church, his family, and his community. Keith is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bettie, his parents R.C. and Kathleen, his son Jerry, and grandson Justen.

He is survived by his two sisters, Anita Kay Oschner and Cozette Price, his son, James and wife Sara, daughter Kaylene and husband Criss. His grandchildren, Jaymie and husband Layne, and their children Nicole and Gracie, Zachary, Meagan and her husband Kyler and their children Maggie and Weston, Crissta and husband Jesse, and Chase and wife Dana.

His family would also like to express a heartfelt Thank You to the incredible caregivers at House of Hope and Hospice of Wichita Falls for their loving care of Keith.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Turkey, Main St. and 8th, Turkey, TX, 79261, Kairos Prison Ministries, and Dreamland Cemetery Association.
