Lavina Welch Obituary

Lavina Boland Welch was called home on April 19, 2022, at Kent Co Nursing Home in Jayton, TX at the age of 88.

Lavina was born on November 8, 1933, to Ben & Lillian Boland. She was the eldest of four children with 3 brothers. She grew up with a strong work ethic from picking cotton to moving irrigation pipe and she loved basketball. She graduated from Jayton High School in 1951.

She Married Rusty Welch December 19, 1953. They moved around working the ranches & Rusty's rodeoing. In 1969 they built one of the first indoor rodeo arenas in Seymour, Texas and it was in operation until 1979. They later moved to Jayton where she fulfilled one of her dreams of having a flower shop, The Yellow Daisy.  She later managed the Community Center and Senior Citizens until retiring in December of 2014. She loved to crochet and created beautiful floral arrangements. She Loved being crowned Exes Homecoming Queen in October 2021.

She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Lavina was survived by her son Edd Welch of Jayton, TX, Daughter Pam Goodall and husband George of Spur, TX, brother Don Boland and wife Shirley of Jayton, TX, four grandchildren: Kristi Stevens of King Wood, John Coleman Welch of Houston, Candice Copelin and husband Reid of Panhandle, Colette Lane and husband Tanner of Canyon and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Rusty Welch, baby girl Mary Helen, Father Ben Boland, Mother Lillian Boland, Brothers, Gerald Boland, and Bruce Boland.

Services will be held Friday, April 22, 2022, at 11:00 am at the First Baptist in Jayton, TX, Rev. Rory Mosely of Spur officiating. Burial to follow at Jayton Cemetery, services under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home of Spur, TX.
