Maria G. Barrera “Lupe” (68) of Spur passed away Wednesday, November 15 peacefully and surrounded by family.
Lupe was born on June 18, 1955 in Tyler, Texas to W.F. and Trinidad Garcia. She shared 32 years with her beloved husband Carlos Barrera.
Lupe worked for the Texas Department of Health for 18 years and then worked for Caprock Telephone Company where she retired. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. She loved watching them play sports and was there for every activity they were involved in.
Lupe was a baker and loved to make desserts. Her zucchini bread and banana pudding were always a favorite at all family gatherings. You could always find a water bottle full of her famous “tang” in her refrigerator. In her free time, she enjoyed serving on the Dickens County Child Welfare Board and being an election judge for Dickens County.
Lupe is survived by her husband Carlos of Spur, one daughter Amanda McGee of Jayton, one stepdaughter Oralia Jara of Lubbock, one bonus daughter Amy Tuttle of Jayton, 9 grandchildren Clay Griswold, Asiah McGee, Francisco Martinez Jr., Seth McGee, Katherine McGee, Joseph Barrera, Elijah Jara, Samantha Jara, Trinity Jara; 8 brothers and sisters Mina Garcia, Laidy Vazquez, Justa Deleon, Maria Oliva Peña, Robert Garcia, Noe Garcia, Raul Garcia, John Garcia and several nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents W.F. and Trinidad Garcia; three sisters Mary Ramos, Emma Riojas, Estella Barron, and one brother Albert Garcia.
