Nadaiah Ann (Seal) Smith, 88, of Iowa Park, TX transitioned to heaven on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at home. She was born on January 3, 1936 to Quincy Ova and Sarah Ann (Monk) Seal at Cee Vee, TX.
Nada went to school at Cee Vee then attended high school at Paducah, TX where she graduated in 1954.
She married Truman Wesley Smith on July 26, 1954 at a Baptist church in Petersberg, VA where he was stationed. Truman served in the Army and his mother, Jewel Smith, drove Nada to Virginia for the wedding.
After his service was complete, the couple settled in the Dumont, TX community where they farmed. They had two children, Wyatt and Lana.
Nada was a talented seamstress who made outfits and home decor. She was also known for her excellent cooking skills. She made wonderful home-made meals for her family but is most famous for her Italian cream cake. (No other recipe compares to it.)
After the children were of school age, Nadaiah worked at the Paducah Ford dealership. Later she became the secretary for the Superintendent of Schools at Guthrie, TX. When she became a grandmother, she left that position to spend more time with family. Several years later, she worked at Hall-Scruggs Department store in Paducah.
At the age of 53, Nada decided to pursue a career as a beautician. She enrolled in Vernon College cosmetology school in Vernon, TX and rented a home there while attending classes. After graduating in August 1988, she opened Nadaiah’s Hair Design in a space at the back of the Hall-Scruggs building in Paducah. Nada had a way of making people feel special. Her clients loved her and she loved them.
In 2003, Truman and Nada moved to Vernon, TX. Nada enjoyed staying active and worked for a retirement center there.
Nadaiah was a caring, fun-loving grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grands. They have many fond memories of time spent with her. She would remember their preferences and serve foods that were special to each.
She was a faithful member of the Dumont and Paducah First United Methodist Churches. After moving to Vernon, she made many new friends while attending the Calvary Baptist Church.
Nadaiah was preceded in death by her husband; Truman, parents; Ova and Sarah Seal, sister; Nelda (Seal) Moran, and brothers; Wayne and Carl Seal.
She is survived by children; Wyatt and Melissa Smith, of Duncan, OK; and Lana and Mark Haynes, of Iowa Park, TX. She is also survived by grandchildren; Derek Payer-Smith, Megan Smith, Aaren (Smithwick) Halencak, Brandon Smith and Adam Smithwick along with six great-grandchildren. Nada is also survived by sister; Nynvia (Seal) Mills, brother; Glenn Neal “Nick” Seal and many nieces, nephews and friends.
