Nancy Bratton Obituary

Nancy Gayle Eddy Bratton, of Paducah, passed peacefully from this life on January 29, 2024 at the age of 88 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on January 8, 1936 to James Henry and Edith Matilda Eddy.  Nancy grew up in Childress, Texas as a Childress Bobcat and after graduation attended the University of Texas at Austin as a proud Texas Longhorn. (although as a Red Raider family, we don’t tell that to everybody)

In 1958 she married Jackie Bratton of Paducah, Texas where she made her home for 65 years.

After she married she taught art lessons and worked for Paducah ISD. She left the school system to raise her two daughters, Laura and Jori, and was the best mom ever, except when she was mad and then you better steer clear. She taught her children how to ride horses, draw and paint, cook, and pretty much everything else but how to sew. (she gave up on that one).   She could saddle a horse, bottle feed a baby calf, sew Barbie clothes, and make a mean pan of biscuits. She wasn’t fond of heights, needles or her children’s driving skills.

Nancy was a member of the Delphian Study Club, First Christian Church of Paducah, The Paducah Garden Club, the Paducah Library Board and the FSA Board of Directors to name a few. She was the owner and operator of Bratton Antiques and Gifts from 1990 until her retirement in 2016.

Later in life, Nancy’s joy was her two grandsons, Jack and Jett. About that time her name changed to Ninny, courtesy of Jack and from then on she was Ninny to everyone. She enjoyed attending stock shows, football and baseball games and spoiling the boys with anything their mother initially said no to, especially chocolate.

She is preceded in death by her parents James and Edith Eddy;  husband, Jackie Ray Bratton and a daughter, Gayle Bratton. She is survived by her two daughters and a son-in-law, Laura Bratton, and Jori and Ron Parks, all of Paducah; two grandsons, Jack Parks of Lubbock and Jett Parks of Paducah;brother-in-law Dr. Jimmy Bratton and sister–in-law Jeanette Bratton, two nieces and two nephews;  caregivers Sara Cook, Myra Brannen, Amanda Lathem, and Aspen Bristol; and a wealth of friends.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
