Norman Harchel Beauchamp, 88, of Lubbock passed away peacefully at his home on March 20, 2025 with family by his side. Because of Norman’s faith in Jesus we know he is walking the streets of heaven now and we will one day see him again.
Norman was born in Chandler, Arizona on June 8th,1936 to Aubrey Lee and Theola White Beauchamp. When he was a baby, they moved from Arizona to just outside of Vernon, Texas and later to Paducah where he was raised with his four younger siblings. Upon graduation from Paducah High School, Norman enlisted in the United States Navy and served in San Diego, Ca on a Mine Sweeper where he took care of refrigeration and small pumps on the ship. After his enlistment was over, Norman returned to Paducah and fell in love with Judy Canon. They were married on August 24,1962 and began building their life together, including the addition of three daughters, Sherri, Kim, and Sonya. Norman was always a dedicated and hardworking man, from the summers when he harvested wheat with his dad and family to patrolling the streets of Paducah as a police officer. Early in he and Judy’s marriage they moved to Dumas, TX where they lived and raised their family for over 58 years. They were active members of the First Baptist Church for many years where Norman taught Sunday School and RA’s. He worked his way up at the Diamond Shamrock Refinery where he eventually retired as the Operations Manager. After retirement Norman enjoyed serving the community through Meals on Wheels and taking care of the love of his life.
Norman loved to fish, and when he wasn’t on the lake, he enjoyed watching fishing shows and talking about fishing. He loved to take Judy several times a week on drives down to the lake to check water levels and take in the wildlife along the way. He also took pride in and enjoyed caring for their yard, planting flowers, and growing tomatoes, peppers and strawberries. He was always joking with those around him and took great pleasure in making others smile. Though he carried a very large stature all through life, his kind and caring heart outsized his frame. He was an incredible husband, dad, Pawpaw, brother, and friend.
Norman was greeted in heaven by his oldest daughter, Sherri Emmert, his mom and dad, his sister Patricia Brooks, and his brother Doyle Beauchamp. Those left to carry on his legacy are his wife Judy of Lubbock, daughter Kim and her husband Brian of Baton Rouge, daughter Sonya and her husband Shawn of Lubbock, a brother Gary Beauchamp of Amarillo, and a sister Shirley Fitzgerald of Dickens. Norman’s grandchildren are Chris Urban, Landon Urban, Leagan Wilson, Addie Wilson, Hollis Wilson, Beckett Barger, and great-grandchildren Ayden, Slade, Phoebe, Phoenix, and Audrey.
