NORMAN HICKS MCCORMICK 1944-2023

Graveside services for Norman Hicks McCormick, of Dickens, will be at 10:00, July 20, 2023 at the Dickens Cemetery with Ben Kautz officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Zapata Funeral Home, Spur.

Hicks passed away at home, Sunday, July 16, 2023 in Dickens. He was born January 1, 1944 to the late Walter Hicks McCormick and Velma Dean (Hawley) McCormick. He graduated from McAdoo High School in 1962. Hicks faithfully served his country through his service as Sergeant in the US Army. He served an honorable tour in Vietnam and often talked about his time in Japan and Hawaii with fondness. Hicks did not share much about his experiences in the service but he was always proud and honored to have served his country and in his later years, enjoyed sharing the good memories from his time deployed. If you knew Hicks, you knew he had a mischievous side. He loved being the jokester in every room, never backing down from an opportunity to “razz” someone. Debating politics was one of his favorite things to do, and did so, with anyone who dared start the conversation with him! His joking nature and mischievous grin was very palpable in every room he entered. He loved to fish, garden, go camping, go boating, two stepping to country music, and never passed up an opportunity to crack one open with his friends and family. He loved working for hours in his workshop, building anything and everything for his family and others. A true small town, country boy at heart who loved his life, his family and his country.

Survivors include his son, Kevin McCormick, Lubbock, TX; daughters, Cheryl Kay, Greenville, TX, Cindy (Daniel) Tarrant, Las Vegas, Nevada; sister, Joan Dickinson, Decatur, Arkansas; brother Johnny McCormick, Decatur, TX; 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
