Oscar Don Hutchinson (O.D. or Hud as he was known by in his younger days) was born November 14, 1938, in Paducah, Texas to Harry and Ila Mae Hutchinson. He was a graduate of Paducah High School. He married Barbara Brown on February 10, 1960 in Childress, Texas. Don joined the Army soon after graduation and served in the Army until his medical discharge. Don was involved in farming and the raising of his cattle for the majority of his life in the Chalk community. He worked hard to establish his land and provide for his family. He often spoke of the first money he ever made was by raising pig’s way back in the country when he and Barbara were first married. He moved Barbara (a city girl) to a house with no running water when they were first married. Could you imagine? Don was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paducah.
Don enjoyed many things in his life. Most included his family and grandkids. He often spoke of the ranch over in Roaring Springs that he and several Paducah friends went in together and bought. Oh, the stories he told. Don was a member of the Paducah Riding Club and had great memories of riding at the Santa Rosa Roundup in Vernon. He loved fishing and riding with his dog as he went to the farm every day that God allowed him to go. Don and his sister, Jane, had the best childhood growing up in the country and doing all things that you can imagine you could do on a farm.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Hutchinson, Parents Harry and Ila Mae Hutchinson, son, O.D. Hutchinson and son, Jim Hutchinson.
Don is survived by a son, Billy Hutchinson and wife Leslie of Paducah; two grandchildren, Haley Hutchinson of Lubbock and Tate Hutchinson of Lubbock; daughter in law Lisa Hajak Hutchinson of Bastrop; Sister Jane Hutchinson Becker of Amarillo
