Ronnie Dale Hill
October 1, 1940 – October 26, 2025 Ronnie Dale Hill, 85, of Spur, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 1, 1940, in Spur, Texas, to Homer and Stella (Henderson) Hill. Ronnie grew up in Spur and graduated from Spur High School in 1958. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from January 1964 to January 1966. On June 7, 1968, he married the love of his life, Sherry McKinney, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
A man of many talents, Ronnie held several careers throughout his life — including baker, local business owner, Texaco consignee, cable winder, farmer, and rancher. He concluded his career
with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, retiring after years of dedicated service. Ronnie was a lifelong Baptist and a man who valued hard work, family, and faith.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Sherry; daughters Deena Golden (Ray) of Spur, and Sandy Kirby (Alan) of Santo; son Cody Hill (Melissa) of Lubbock; grandchildren Mitch Rider (Gracie) of San Antonio, Brett Kirby of Aledo, Skyler Rider (Brittany) of Chico, Chelsea Kirby of Aledo, Zoey Hill of Lubbock, and Corbyn Hill of Lubbock; and “extra” grandchildren Justin Rider of Fort Worth, Taylor Rider of Austin, and Sadie Hudler of San Antonio. He was blessed with six great-grandchildren: Braylon Kirby, Baileigh Kirby, Elleigh Rider, Jameson Rider, Easton Rider, and Lynnlee Rider. He is also survived by his lifelong best friend, Mike Martin of Spur. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Stella Hill; his brother, Don Hill; and sister-in-law, Gloria Hill.
He will be remembered for his love of golfing, arrowhead hunting and collecting, spending time with his family and friends, and for his well-known sweet tooth. A celebration of Ronnie’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, at First Baptist Church in Spur, with Alan Jackson officiating. A short visitation will follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in Ronnie’s honor.
