Rose Marie was born March 7, 1936 in Kempner, Texas to Chester & Ilva Carpenter Ellis. She graduated high school from Paducah in 1954 and was very involved with class reunions and activities. Rosie worked at the Paducah Gin & West Texas Gin, Jeter Farm Store and was owner of the Circle J Western Store for many years. In retirement she was a homemaker who loved spending time in the yard. Mowing was one of her favorite pastimes. She also burned anything that would burn and if the fire whistle blew, everyone was calling to see if it was her.
Some of her stories would include the time she met Elvis Presley in 1957 in Germany. Her car had broken down and she and her friends flagged another car down for help and it was him. She always loved him, but she called him a real jerk when she met him. She loved Elvis so much, she named her dog after him.
In later years, she loved birds but had a vendetta against squirrels. She wanted someone to teach her how to shoot so she could kill those suckers. She would trap them, take them to the country
and let them go but swears they would beat her back home!
Mimi was famous for making “woobies” which started when Robyn left hers in the motel in Wyoming and would not sleep until she had some silk slick material to feel of, so she had to make one. After that she made them for baby showers, grandkids, great grandkids and all of their friends!
Mimi was always known for her powerful prayers. She was a faithful servant to the Lord and knew the bible by heart. When anyone needed prayer, they went to Mimi. We have found at least 12 bibles and 40 years of scripture notebooks that she had written full of prayers for members of the community, friends and family. She was loved by everyone she met and a Mimi to many kids regardless if they were hers or not.
