Roy Keith Moore, 88, of Paducah, TX, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020. He was born July 27, 1931, in Vernon, TX, to Roy Robert and Viola Baker Moore. He graduated from Vernon High School in 1948 and from Texas Tech University in 1952, with a degree in business. At Tech, he was a member of the Wrangler Club, which became the ATO Fraternity.
After graduation, Mr. Moore served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954.
In 1954, he went to Chillicothe, TX, where he began his 66 year career in the family grocery business, L & M Food Market.
Mr. Moore married Betty Helton on January 24, 1963, in Vernon, TX. This union produced two children: Karen and Tim.
In December, 1972, Mr. Moore purchased the Thriftway Grocery in Paducah, TX, where he and his family became residents for the following 48 years.
Mr. Moore was very active in the Paducah Church of Christ, serving as a deacon and an elder. Other civic organizations he belonged to were the American Legion of Hardeman County, Chillicothe city council, Chillicothe Lions Club, and the Paducah Lions Club. He also served on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Chillicothe for many years.
Mr. Moore was an avid Texas Tech fan and was thrilled to see his three granddaughters graduate from his alma mater. His favorite times were spent making small projects in his workshop, and hunting and fishing with family and friends. The family enjoyed many wonderful vacations, trips to their lake house, and picnics at the family farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Viola, and one brother, Kenneth. He is survived by his immediate family: wife, Betty; daughter, Karen Elliott and husband Monte; son Tim Moore and wife Erika, all of Paducah; granddaughters Kaitlyn and Kristyn Deaton, and Alyssa Moore; and one grandson, Rory Moore.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law Lawanda Moore of Edmond, OK, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family is so thankful for the outpouring of love and support during his passing. They would appreciate memorials to the Garden of Memories Cemetery or Westview Boys’ Home, Hollis OK.
