Ruth I. Hoover (Jean), longtime Spur resident, passed away Monday, March 16, 2026 at UMC Hospital in Lubbock.
Mrs. Hoover was born Oct. 2, 1935, in Aragon, Georgia. Her parents were L.W. and Annie Corene Dover. She is survived by her children, Terry Hoover (Ofelia), Jerry Hoover, and Rhonda O'Neill; her brother Milton Dover (Roxie); brother-in-law Wayne Hoover (Sandra), sisters-in-law Patsy Byars (Tom) and Judy Morgan; and grandchildren Meagan Shelton (Jared), Samantha Curtis (Phillip), Davis Hoover, Leah Collins, Laurel McCurdy (Blake), Shawn O'Neill (Jennifer), Ryan O'Neill (Danielle), Jason O'Neill (Paige) and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Hoover, her parents L.W. and Annie Corene Dover, brothers Ralph and Jerry Dover, and her sister, Rachel Sartin.
Jean married the love of her life, Bill Hoover, on September 6, 1956 in Aragon, Georgia. When they arrived in Spur, Jean discovered there were a few things Bill had forgotten to tell her about West Texas--golf courses with no grass and sand storms to mention a couple of omissions. Jean worked for Texas Instruments, many years at the Texas Agricultural Station, Spur Insurance and finally served as bookkeeper for the Senior Center in Spur.
Jean and Bill supported the Spur community and their children's activities through the years. Jean loved golf, Bridge, estate sales, friends, family and eventually-Spur.
A memorial service celebrating Jean's life will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Spur, under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations to Spur Senior Citizens, 210 Burlington Spur, Texas 79370.
