Sally Garlington Obituary

Sally Faye Biddy Hight Garlington was born on January 27, 1921, to Ben and IsaMae Biddy in their home in Cottle County, Texas.  She departed this earth on December 5, 2022.

Her daddy worked as a farmhand; he built the rock wall that still stands around the old Alamo School area which is now the John Colby Jones Park.  Her mother was a sought-after seamstress for making the ladies dresses around town.  Her mother also worked at M.E. Moses when it was first built or brought to Paducah.  Sally loved to tell the story of coming to town and buying her favorite candles and material for pretty dresses.  She said they would buy blocked ice and cover the ice with quilts to protect the ice from the dirt roads.  Sally went to work for Cottle County Judge Gibson, at the age of 16, serving court papers to the people of Cottle County.  She did not have a driver license; but the Judge let her drive his car to serve the court papers and this was one of her fondest memories.  She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Paducah.

Sally Faye met Wallace (Johnny) Hight of Guthrie and they married in 1940.  Johnny served in the United States Army and while he was serving overseas in World War 2, their daughter Johnnie Faye was born. After the war, he came home, and they continued their happy home in Cottle County.  Johnny gave Sally her first set of golf clubs and she loved the game.  She was the first person to make a hole in one at the Paducah Golf Course.  He passed away in 1979.  In 1988, Sally married Harold Garlington from Lubbock and they enjoyed life together until he passed away in 2012.

Her precious daughter, Johnny Faye passed away in 1992.  Sally is survived by her grandchildren Belinda Anderson of Paducah and Wallace Anderson of Combine; Three great granddaughters:  Rachel who is in the United States Army; Leah who is in the United States Navy and Brooke of Combine and One great-great granddaughter Aubrey.

Sally’s advice for a full life is to always be happy and give lots of love to everyone.  Memorials can be made to the Paducah Cemetery Association, PO Box 805, Paducah, TX  79248.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
