Terry Dan Atkinson, 66, passed away peacefully at home on August 28, 2025, in Spur, Texas.
Born on October 14, 1958, in O'Donnell, Texas, Terry was the son of C.L. and Inell (Lewis) Atkinson. He graduated from Tahoka High School in 1976 and married the love of his life, Debrah Braly, in 1978. The following year, they welcomed their first daughter, Aarone. After a few detours and the arrival of two precious twin daughters, Kassi and Kerri, Terry and Debrah returned to Spur to be near family and raise their girls. Terry worked as the local butcher for over 40 years, retiring in 2023.
Terry’s children remember him as a quiet, reserved, and deeply strong man—a devoted father who loved God and encouraged them to pursue Jesus and His calling for their lives. He had a gentle spirit and a steady presence, always ready to lend a hand or offer quiet wisdom.
He is survived by his wife, Debrah Atkinson of Spur, TX; daughter Aarone McLendon and husband Gary of Seagraves, TX; granddaughter Rachel McLendon of Abilene, TX; daughter Kassi Bradford and husband Tye, along with their children Eli, AddiLynn, and Ari Bradford of Spur, TX; and daughter Kerri Atkinson of Lubbock, TX. He is also survived by his brothers: Jeff Atkinson of Denton, TX; Joe Atkinson and wife Renee of Dickens, TX; Barry Atkinson and wife Lillian of Dickens, TX; and Brent Atkinson and wife Jerri of Afton, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, C.L. and Inell Atkinson.
A man of few words, Terry found joy in the simple things—his faith, his family, and the quiet rhythm of a cast line. His legacy lives on in every story told, every prayer whispered, and every peaceful moment spent by the water.
A private burial for immediate family will be held at Dickens Cemetery on Saturday, August 30. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Temple Church in Dickens, TX, officiated by Pastor Jamie Braly. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Terry’s life.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the dialysis staff and doctors who cared for Terry over the years. Your compassion and dedication made a difficult journey a little lighter, and your kindness will always be remembered. We are especially grateful for the nurses who offered not only medical care but also comfort and friendship, and for the physicians who treated Terry with dignity and respect throughout his journey.
