Mr. Winston Fitzgerald died peacefully at his home in Spur Texas on January 15, 2024, at the age of 88.
Winston was born on January 14, 1936, in Spur, Texas to Lawrence and Thelma Fitzgerald. He graduated from Spur High School in 1954. After spending a few years serving his country in the United States Army, he married Charlena Carpenter in 1964. Work took him between New Mexico and Texas before eventually returning to Spur where he worked and retired from the White River Municipal Water District.
Winston is survived by his wife, Charlena Fitzgerald; his daughter, Michele Smith (Patrick Garcia) of Arlington, Texas; his granddaughter, Ashtyn Cornett (Deionte Johnson); grandson, Gage Cornett and great grandson, Kayson Johnson of Spur, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Thelma Fitzgerald; siblings Eloise Fitzgerald Smith and Armon “Flip” Fitzgerald; and his daughter, Kristi Cornett.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Zapata Funeral Home in Spur.
A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, January 20 at the First Baptist Church of Spur followed by a brief graveside service at Spur Memorial Cemetery with Rory Mosley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Winston’s life. Flowers and condolences may be sent to Zapata Funeral home or donations can be made to Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
